5 Ways to Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal

3/12/2018

When it comes to selling your home, the first impression is always the most important. It may only take a few minutes for a potential home buyer to decide if your house is the one. First impressions always start at the curb. What do buyers see from the street? It is here that you need to begin sprucing up your property. Below, we provide five tips on how to improve your home’s curb appeal.

  1. The Front Entry

Your home’s front entry is the focal point of its curb appeal. You can start by giving your door a new paint job that complements the rest of the house exterior. You can also do some cleaning and repairs around the front entry as well. Polish or replace old door knobs and fixtures.

  1. Hardware Upgrades

One of the biggest turn-offs to any open house is old, rusty hardware. Now is the time to change out the door locks, door handles, mailboxes, light fixtures, and other accessories that adorn the house. Be especially aware of any metal items. Keep in mind; some accessories may not be necessary. You’ll need to remove them.

  1. Balance & Symmetry

Does your yard have symmetry? Is there a balance between the left and right side? Does it seem like one side is cared for while the other side is neglected? Look for gaps in symmetry and balance. For instance, are the outside lights balanced along the porch and on either side of the doors? Do all the fixtures and yard decor match?

  1. Florals and Greenery

Nothing is more impressive than a yard that contains thoughtful, hearty landscaping. For this project, you’ll need to do more than mowing the grass. Add florals and lots of greenery to the yard. You may want to create some mini-gardens or enhance the sidewalk and driveway area. For most landscapes, a staggered, asymmetrical arrangement works best to create a dynamic setting.

  1. Window Boxes

Speaking of greenery, try adding some window boxes to your front windows. Window boxes offer a quick, simple way to add color, style, and charm to your front porch. You can choose boxes constructed from copper or iron, or go with old-fashioned wood boxes. Fill the boxes with a wide range of flowers and greenery.
